Seeing stuck on stupid ain’t funny. Not even amusing.
So, I sit here fuming as I watch the CNN Special Investigation: The Noose–An American Nightmare. The opening scene shows the body of Rubin Stacy, a homeless, black tenant farmer, who was taken from police by 100 masked men in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1935. The justification for the lynching: Scaring a white woman, when he stopped by her home, begging for food.
I sit in my library looking at the picture on my TV of Stacy hanging by a noose from a tree and a photo on my laptop of Katt Williams, the alleged comedian, sporting a pink suit, accessorized by a noose hanging around his neck. Katt, star of the one man HBO special, The Pimp Chronicles, brags about being a nigger. So the proud nigger shows up at the taping, last month, of this year’s BET Awards, flashing his ignorance. Not knowing, or not caring, or not being smart enough to know, that hangman’s nooses symbolize hate, bigotry, torture and murder.
I think about my trip last summer to South Africa where I visited the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg and saw the 131 nooses symbolizing the black political prisoners who were hanged or died in detention because they rebelled against the whites only government during the apartheid era.
I think about Strange Fruit, Billy Holliday’s haunting song about southern lynchings and I think again about Katt’s ignorance. I try to imagine Adam Sandler trying to make the holocaust funny or proudly referring to himself and his people as kikes or hebes.
It’s unthinkable.
Then I think about Duane "Dog" Chapman, the bounty hunter, chiding his son for having a black girlfriend because her presence would stifle the use of the word nigger in the family household. That brought on other funny thoughts.
I started thinking how funny it would be if Chapman was paid a bounty to track down Katt and hang the comedian by his accessory long enough for the nigger to realize that more than 4,700 lynchings of black people here and 131 hangings of black men in South Africa are not good material for a comedy routine–nor are the lynchings as trivial as being a nigger pimping ignorance believing it will crack you up.
